Let's achieve our best lives POSSIBLE in 2015.
I believe there is so much #More2Wellness than WEIGHT: It's all about awareness. Without my grandfather's legacy, I don't know that I would have been aware enough to discover the changes I needed to make in order to add our son to our family. ...In order to help my husband heal from colitis, from a frightening heart condition and from annual respiratory problems including walking pneumonia 2-3 times a season. ...In order to be one of those people who never gets the flu, or a cold, or who hasn't been on antibiotics in twelve years, despite being overweight.
In order to do that, we need to feel our best. If you've been plagued with chronic illness, the flu, respiratory issues, allergies, food sensitivities, depression, and even auto-immune illness or infertility, you will find help here to GANE Control of your life and at least improve how you feel every day.
How do I know this? My family is full of test cases that show how certain choices have improved the state of our immune systems, thereby keeping us well. The best one, of course, is my "Gramps," who lived an amazing 100 years. Many of us can count one person in our family who achieved such a milestone. When we do our due diligence and objectively investigate how they got there, often the answers are quite obvious, and they often start with a positive attitude. This was certainly true of Gramps. His legacy has turned into my soon to be released first GANE Possible publication, Beating the Statistics: A Mother's Quest to Reclaim Fertility, Halt Autism & Help Her Child Grow From Behavior Failure to Behavior Success. |
Gramps had an amazing appreciation for people, even the ones he didn't particularly like. He had a fantastic sense of humor with a gift for story-telling (no idea which ones were actually true--no one else was around to verify or deny). Everyone he met received a firm, knee-bending handshake, a ready smile, and noted an impish twinkle in his eye. And they never forgot him. But there was nothing Gramps loved more than to celebrate life surrounded by family gathered around a table loaded with the bounty from his garden.

I miss this man and the way he loved me and my whole family, every single day. I honor his legacy here, in my upcoming book, Beating the Statistics, which focuses on wellness topics that plague our society (and so much more), in the work and in the speaking I do.
So why does it matter? It matters because YOU matter! If you don't matter to yourself, you matter to someone. And if you don't know who that someone is, please know that you matter to me. Our world seems pretty broken these days. The more happy and fulfilled people who inhabit it and feel well, the better off we all are.
Lately we have better reason than ever to recognize that we matter--our wallets! Whatever our politics, healthcare costs are skyrocketing. Wouldn't it be great if there were things we could do, choices we could make, each and every day, that could reduce our worry about those healthcare costs, thereby reducing stress? Stress has a negative chemical impact on our bodies, and it makes us unwell. Kind of amazing how that works. And it's kind of amazing that we have the power to choose how we feel from one day to the next.

Probably the most compelling test case is my son and how he came to be. My husband and I have three children between us: there's a mine, a his and an ours. Our daughters are 28 and 26, our son is 11. The spread was not in the least intentional.
I struggled with six years of infertility and one loss before we finally managed to get pregnant with our son. I say that *I struggled* because it was a battle in which I felt very much alone, as many women do. Guilt about our sexual histories, rape, abortion, for me, becoming a single mom at only twenty years of age--so many factors come into play to contribute to feelings of grave shame that in our minds become evidence when our bodies fail to do what other women have been doing for millennia.
Many of us believe we've made choices that make us undeserving--that we're bad somehow. I just don't believe that's true. I believe there is a synergy that must take place between Man, Woman and Mother Nature in order to achieve a healthy, successful, full-term pregnancy. I believe in most cases it's POSSIBLE--that you have the power to make certain simple, healthful choices--to improve your chance at becoming pregnant and staying that way. They certainly can't hurt. And just look at the amazing, worthwhile results. I want that for you, and I'd love to help you achieve the family you desire.
I once suffered from chronic bronchitis, chronic sinus infections, at times almost debilitating PMS, depression, the list goes on. I am overweight, and yet I don't have nearly the mild to debilitating health issues so many of us accept as our fate because commercials numb us to the detrimental effects of taking drugs without thought. Drugs have their place, but I believe we should be far more thoughtful about accepting a page from a prescription pad instead of the good old-fashioned FARMacy in which my grandfather believed. MORE Variety, MORE Vegetables, everything in moderation....
I am a work in progress, as we all are. I want to celebrate even the small successes that can add up to one fantastic year--to #MOREin2015--and I'd like to do that with you. More than anything else, I want to convey the message: Don't wait until midlife to understand, value, and CLAIM your worth--and, embrace wellness as the foundation to become your best self POSSIBLE.
